Types of insurance: life, health, home

Compulsory vs. optional, and the role of each, explained neutrally, as education, not as a recommendation for any particular product.

Home insurance

PAD (compulsory home insurance against disasters) is required by law for every home and covers specific risks: earthquake, flood, landslide. The sums insured under PAD are fairly limited, which is why many families also opt for optional home insurance with wider cover (fire, theft, damage).

Health insurance

The public system (CNAS) gives basic cover to contributors. Private (optional) health insurance can cover faster access to tests, private clinics or specific treatments not fully covered by the public system. How useful it is depends a lot on your individual situation (age, medical history, access to the public system where you live).

Life insurance

Life insurance matters most if other people depend financially on your income (children, a partner, supported parents). There are “pure” types (protection, with no savings component) and types with an investment component attached. The latter tend to have higher costs and more complexity, and it is worth understanding clearly what you pay for pure protection versus what you pay for the investment part.

Legal note

This information is strictly educational. EduFin does not recommend any particular insurer or product: assess your specific needs and compare at least 2 or 3 offers before choosing.

In short

  • PAD is compulsory but with limited cover, so many families add optional insurance.
  • Private health insurance complements, and does not replace, the public system.
  • Life insurance matters most when other people depend financially on you.
